MLC Umashree urges Government

Bengaluru: Congress MLC and actress Umashree has drawn the attention of the Government to address the shortage of Ph.D Guides at the University of Mysore (UoM).

In his reply, Minister for Higher Education Dr. M.C. Sudhakar assured the Council that the Government was compiling a list of professors at the Varsity’s many constituent Colleges who are eligible to guide Ph.D candidates. “The guidelines laid down by University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2018 stipulate that a Professor can guide a maximum of eight doctoral candidates, leaving several Ph.D scholars without guides,” he said. The Government will take necessary steps to address the shortage of guides, said Dr. Sudhakar, urging Ph.D scholars taking more than five to six years, to complete their research at the earliest.

“We will apprise students of the need to complete their research through Varsity Syndicate,” he added.
