Adivasis protest near DC Office, demand rehabilitation

Mysore/Mysuru: Seeking rehabilitation for the displaced Adivasi families of Nagarahole National Park, members of Budakattu Krishikara Sangha, Adivasi Girijana Mahila Sangha, Karnataka Dalita Chaluvali Nava Nirmana Vedike, Adijambava Sangha and DEED Organisation staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Siddarthanagar here yesterday.

Addressing the protestors, Adivasi leader B.S. Vittal Nanachi said that Adivasis and tribals residing in Nagarahole National Park were displaced in the name of wildlife. But they were not provided rehabilitation as per norms, which has put them into a lot of hardship. Though the Assadi Commission gave its report on rehabilitation 7 years ago, nothing has moved further. The Government, which was supposed to provide rehabilitation for 3,418 displaced families, has ignored the High Court order on rehabilitation, he said.

Continuing, Nanachi demanded establishment of Child Care Centres in all Haadis (Hamlets) and deputation of Anganwadi workers. Urging the Government to reserve 6 MLA seats to Adivasis, he said the Government should cancel the tilling rights given to others for tilling Adivasi land and distribute Title Deeds to Adivasis and also establish an Adivasi Development Corporation.

Leaders Girija, P.K. Ramu, Harihara Anandaswamy, Dr. S. Srikanth, Shivanna, Gangadhar and others were took part in the protest demonstration.
