Administer oath against child marriage in all Schools: DC

Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar presiding over a review meeting on Childline 1098 at his Office in city recently.

Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abhiram G. Sankar has asked the officials concerned to administer an oath daily at schools on prevention of child marriage.

He was addressing a meeting at his Office here on Wednesday with Officers of Department of Women and Child Development, Department of Public Instruction and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to review the progress with reference to Childline 1098 for the last one year.

The DC suggested the Officers to see that the oath against child marriage is administered at schools during the morning assembly at all Government, aided and unaided schools in the District.

He observed that despite awareness campaigns and technological development, child marriages are prevalent in rural and forest regions.

He disclosed that the District received 65 complaints of child marriages and added that while 62 were prevented, FIR was lodged in three cases.

He said that child marriages happen unconventionally in small convention halls or houses with a small gathering under the pretext of a simple function hoodwinking the officials.

He asserted that this social evil should be totally eradicated and asked school managements to conduct awareness programmes on the topic.

DLSA Member-Secretary B.P. Devamane, Women and Child Development Deputy Director K. Padma, DDPI Panduranga and others attended the meeting.
