‘Adopt eco-friendly practice to save nature’

Two-day ‘My-Green 17’ exhibition begins in city

Mysuru: A two-day ‘My-Green 17’ exhibition organised by Builders Association of India (BAI), Mysuru Chapter, began at Jayamma Govinde Gowda convention hall in city this morning.

Inaugurating the expo, Principal Scientific Officer of Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, IISc (Bengaluru), A.R. Shivakumar said that he had been conducting research for the past 37 years to know how humans can lead an eco-friendly life.

Stating that he had never sought a water connection for the past 27 years, Dr. Shivakumar said that it was possible for people to get water free of cost by installing Rain Water Harvesting system. “We have access to free light and air. Unfortunately, we have reached a level where we are paying for water we consume. This can be avoided”, he added.

Shivakumar also said that soap water let out from household washing machine can be used to clean toilets and added that soap water with lime content can be used as fertilizers.

“Today, every person is using 11,500 litres of water everyday directly or indirectly. There are concerns over water being preserved for the future. In future, there will be water but what would be required is its scientific management” he added.

Later, Rural Development Expert K.P. Suresh, Agriculture Expert Dr. Prakash Bhat and Progressive Expert Kailasmurthy held a discussion with farmers.

A total of 26 stalls have been set up by various organisations. The exhibition has on display M-Sand, solar products, rain water harvesting system. The expo will be open from 10 am to 9 pm on both days.
