Mysuru – The production of mango crop in Israel is more than in India. While India produces 10 tonnes of mangoes on one hectare land, Israel produces 30 to 50 tonnes, said Cliff Love, Advisor to the National Horticulture Board and an agricultural expert from Israel.
He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop and interaction on Chia crop organised by Raitha Mithra Farmer Producers Pvt. Limited in association with Department of Horticulture at Sri Rajendra Bhavan in JSS Hospital premises on Saturday.
Stating that there were several reasons for the low production of the mangoes, Love said that Israel was away from the equator and the cold weather condition was suitable for mango cultivation.
“India has a good climatic condition and soil for cultivation of mangoes. But the problem is with the yield as it is not the same every year. The prime problem for low production is the unscientific management of mango groves. Adopting Israeli method of agriculture could help farmers in India yield more mangoes,” he added.
Raitha Mithra President Kurubur Shanthakumar, Horticulture Deputy Director D. Manjunath, Horticulture College Dean Prof. D.S.K. Swamy, NABARD Assistant Manager Aaravamudan, JSS KVK Programme Co-ordinator Dr. Arun Balamatti and others were present at the interaction programme.
