Senior consultant Dr. B.V. Rajagopal delivers ‘Health Talk’ at Elder Citizens Council’

Mysore/Mysuru: Due to recent demographic changes and advancements in geriatrics, more super senior citizens (above 80 years) are now active and healthy, said Dr. B.V. Rajagopal, an eminent physician and senior consultant in medicine and clinical cardiology. He spoke to a well-attended audience of senior citizens during a recent ‘Health Talk’ arranged by the Elder Citizens Council, Jayalakshmipuram, Mysuru.

In his presentation, Dr. Rajagopal explained how trained geriatrics have improved the mortality and hygiene conditions of senior citizens, reducing the need for excessive medication and promoting healthy life.

He highlighted the unfortunate neglect faced by many seniors due to various reasons such as ageing problems, climate conditions, family fragmentation and younger generations migrating for higher studies. This neglect often leads to a lack of emotional support and poor nutrition among seniors.

Dr. Rajagopal emphasised the importance of reducing over-medication by consulting trained geriatricians and recommending regular health check-ups. He discussed various health aspects that need attention, including body composition, DNA, nervous and endocrine systems, cardiovascular health, vision, smell, taste, hypertension, diabetes and memory loss.

He also acknowledged the significant contributions of senior citizens in various fields and stressed the need to encourage and reward their performance and knowledge. He answered numerous questions from the audience.

The event was presided over by Dr. H.M. Nagaraju, President of the Council. Gowdappa, Chairman of the Trust, K.S. Krishna, Secretary, Prof. Javare Gowda, Baig, Sanna Ninge Gowda, Dr. K. Shankare Gowda, K.V. Ramanath, S.V. Venkateshaiah, Dr. Ramachandre Gowda, G.M. Made Gowda, Dr. B.R. Sainath, Susheela D. Pulay, Somu, D. Srinivas, Latha, Ramanna, V.N. Achar and others were present.
