AeroIgnite 2026: National-level Aero-modelling Contest held

Mysuru: JSS Science and Technology University (JSS STU), Mysuru, successfully organised AeroIgnite 2026, a three-day National-level Aero-modelling Competition, marking the first event of its kind in the Mysuru region. 

Hosted by AeroJC, a student-led Aero-modelling Club of Department of Mechanical Engineering, SJCE, the competition brought together 23 enthusiastic teams from engineering institutions across the country, each showcasing completely student-built fixed-wing RC aircraft.

The event commenced on June 3 with registration, participant briefing and technical compliance verification. The formal inauguration was held on June 4, with Amith Byrappa, Senior Manager – API Management and Data Governance, Collins Aerospace, Bengaluru, as the chief guest. The inaugural function was presided over by Dr. A.N. Santosh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, JSS STU, in the presence of Dr. C. Nataraju, Principal (I/C), SJCE and Dr. G. Mallesh, Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering.

On the occasion, 10th year anniversary newsletter of AeroJC Student Club was released by the dignitaries.

Later, the much-awaited flying rounds were held on June 5 at the KSCA Cricket Ground, JSS STU Campus, where teams competed in a challenging mission involving the precise dropping of golf balls into a designated 5 m x 5 m target area.

All aircraft underwent rigorous technical inspections before flying rounds and safety checks before flight operations. A certified licensed pilot operated the aircraft during the competition, while a dedicated Emergency Response Team (ERT) and safety personnel ensured the highest standards of operational safety throughout the event.

Team Dhanush from Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology secured first place and won a cash prize of Rs. 15, 000. Team AeroMIT from Manipal Institute of Technology claimed the second prize along with a cash award of Rs. 10,000 while Team Aero Veloce from RV College of Engineering finished third and received a cash prize of Rs. 5,000.  Participation certificates were distributed to all participants in recognition of their efforts and achievements.

Valedictory and prize distribution ceremony was presided by JSS STU VC Dr. A.N. Santosh Kumar. SJCE Principal (I/C) Dr. C. Nataraju, HoD (In-charge) Dr. T. Manjunatha, Department of Mechanical Engineering Professor Dr. R. Ravishankar and Assistant Registrar of Examination Prof. M.S. Abhinandan distributed prizes to winners.
