Ahimsa Vedike demands implementation of SC order on job promotion

Maintaining that the recent Supreme Court order striking down consequential seniority for SC/ST category in job promotions was not against reservation in jobs, the Ahimsa Vedike, a body of a group of people from General Category, Backward Classes and Minorities, has demanded implementation of the Apex Court order on job promotions.

Addressing the press meet at a private hotel here on Mar. 22, Vedike President M.K. Nanjaiah said the Apex Court in its order has only corrected the anomalies in job promotions. Also, the order was not against job reservation, he said. Claiming that the present quota of job reservation was unfair to employees from General and non-SC/ST categories, Nanjaiah said the existing policy on job reservation was heavily loaded against employees from other communities, as they had to wait for over 20 years to get even the first promotion.

But the Supreme Court, taking these anomalies into consideration, has sought to rectify the imbalance in job promotion, which was most welcome, he said and added that the Apex Court order would render justice to all categories. Urging the Government to immediately implement the latest SC order, Nanjaiah warned of protests if the Government failed to do so.

Vedike Vice-President H.P. Thammannegowda, District Lingayat Association President G.R. Parameshwara and others were present at the press meet.
