AIISH to host National Workshop on ‘Use of Music in Education of Special Children’

November 29, 2017

Mysuru: The Department of Special Education, All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), Mysuru, is organising a two-day National Workshop on ‘Use of Music in the Education of Children with Special Needs’ on Dec. 6 and 7 at its premises.

Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji, Junior Pontiff, Avadhoota Datta Peetham, Mysuru will be inaugurating the programme on Dec.6 at 10 am.

Music therapy is an interpersonal process in which a trained music therapist uses music and all of its facets — physical, emotional, mental, social, aesthetic, and spiritual — to help clients to improve or maintain their health.

The unique qualities of music as therapy can enhance communication, support change, and enable people to live more resourcefully and creatively. It may help children with communication problems, attention, motivation, and behavioural problems.

Music therapists primarily help clients improve their level of functioning in various domains (example, cognitive functioning, motor skills, emotional and affective development, behaviour and social skills) by using music experiences (singing, song- writing and listening to music) to achieve measurable treatment goals and objectives for children with special needs.

Hence, there is a need to empower students, care-givers of children with special needs, allied professionals, mainstream teachers, NGOs and special educators on use of music in the education of children with special needs.

Those interested to attend this programme can contact Ph: 0821-2502566 or 0821-2502519.
