Mysuru: Hindu Jagarana Vedike, Mysuru district unit, on the occasion of Akhand Bharat Sankalp Diwas, took out a massive torchlight procession to mark 80th Independence Day in city on Friday.
The procession, which began from Ganapathi Temple at Tilaknagar passed through Mission Hospital Road and other prominent roads of city and culminated in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple at the Mysore Palace North gate, where a stage programme was held.
Addressing the gathering, RSS leader Keshavamurthy said that the religious practices and opinions of Hindus have equal status in the Constitution drafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He warned the Police not to suppress the rights of Hindus unnecessarily.
Pointing out that there is Hindu awareness among the Mysuru Police as well, he said that however, they remain silent due to their sense of duty. However, the Police Commissioner, DCPs and ACPs, who are part of the Police system, do not allow Hindus to enjoy the rights granted by the Constitution. If this continues, a day will come for us too, he warned.
Stating that Vedike works with the Police always to fight against drugs, atrocities on women and traitors, but still the Police are registering cases against them, he expressed displeasure against the City Police Commissioner for not giving permission for the torchlight procession.
But the Court gave its permission and as per the Court’s order, the event has been organised, he said and added that they were never against the law and the Police, but were against anti-social elements.
MLA T.S. Srivatsa, City BJP President and former MLA L. Nagendra, Hindu Jagarana Vedike, Mysuru City unit’s Co-Convenor Chandraswamy, Convenor Vasanthkumar and others were present.
