Alive but declared dead!

  • Son applies for father’s death certificate, MCC issues death certificate for him too
  • Stages ‘dead man’ protest as MCC asks him to go to Court to declare him alive

Mysuru: In a major goof up, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Zonal Office-6 has allegedly issued a death certificate in the name of a person, who is hale and hearty, depriving him of benefits, he is legally entitled for.

Shivannachari, a native of Honakanapura village in Gundlupet taluk, Chamarajanagar district, had breathed his last, on his way to K.R. Hospital in the city on Apr.14, 2021. His son Guruswamy, had applied for his father’s death certificate at Zone-6 office of MCC. Strangely, along with the death certificate of Shivannachari, the death certificate of Guruswamy was also issued. Taken aback, when Guruswamy enquired at the MCC, he was reportedly told to move Court, to cancel the death certificate.

Vexed over the attitude of MCC officers, Guruswamy, accompanied by his wife Prema, along with a faction of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha  (KRRS) members, led by its State Working President T.R. Vidyasagar, staged a protest at the portico of MCC Main Office on New Sayyaji Rao Road in city yesterday.

The protest drew attention, as Guruswamy laid down on the floor, like a dead, to vent his anguish for issuing a death certificate, when he was indeed alive. The protest was later called off, as the officers assured to rectify the certificate within July 10.

KRRS State Vice-President Himmavu Raghu, City President Basappa, District President Satish, Women’s Unit President Shwetha, Vice-President Rathnamma, District Vice-President Nanjunda, office-bearer Mahadev Nayak and AHINDA Jawarappa were present.
