Mysuru:  Emphasising on the need for all Government Colleges to come under NAAC certification regime, Prof. R. Mugeshappa, Joint Director of the Department of Collegiate Education, Mysuru, advised the Principals to work in that direction.

He was speaking after inaugurating a one-day workshop for Principals and IQAC/NAAC Coordinators of Government Colleges in the jurisdiction of the Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Mysuru region, organised by the Office of the Joint Director of Collegiate Education at Maharani’s Science College for Women on JLB Road here yesterday.

Pointing out that there were 75 Government First Grade Colleges in Mysuru region, out of which 53 had earned NAAC recognition, Prof. Mugeshappa said that the remaining 22 Colleges should come under NAAC review at the earliest.

Listing out the reasons for some colleges still not getting NAAC recognition, he said that one of the main reasons is that these Colleges do not have own buildings, but such Colleges must work towards gaining NAAC recognition in the interest of their future, he said and urged the Principals to work out plans in this direction.

Explaining the role of IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) in Colleges, he said that NAAC recognition will be made more easier if IQAC is active and alert.

Prof. Siddalingaswamy, IQAC Co-ordinator at the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Bengaluru, in his address, observed that this workshop should have been held last year itself, but could not be done due to various reasons.

Pointing out that the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission would not apply to the faculty of such Colleges which do not have NAAC registration, he stressed on the importance of getting NAAC recognition. Calling for proper and timely utilisation of UGC Grants, he said that College Principals must keep in mind the future of students if Colleges fail to get NAAC recognition.

IQAC Co-ordinator Dr. G. Savitha, College Principal Prof. S.B. Shanthappanavar and others were present.
