Alleged assault on youth by Traffic Cop; case registered

Mysuru: A case has been registered against a Traffic Policeman following a complaint over an alleged assault on a youth.

Based on the complaint to KR Sub-Division ACP from 29-year-old K. Srinivas of Gundurao Nagar, an FIR has been registered against Beerappa, attached to KR Traffic Police Station on Aug. 22.

In his complaint, Srinivas has stated that on June 18 at about 2 pm, while he was walking near JSS College on Ooty Road, KR Traffic Police personnel were conducting checking of vehicles, when he saw the Cops checking the two-wheeler of a person known to him.

The Traffic Cops then asked the two-wheeler rider to pay fine and following the payment of fine, the Police gave him a receipt without mentioning the fine amount in the receipt.

Later, the Police gave the two-wheeler to private person and asked him to bring the vehicle to the Police Station to which Srinivas objected. The private person was not wearing a helmet, which was questioned by Srinivas during which Beerappa allegedly assaulted him.

Srinivas has also mentioned that Beerappa abused him using foul language and snatched away his mobile phone. When he (Srinivas) went to KR Police Station to lodge a complaint on June 19, the Police gave his mobile phone but his phone was flashed, chip removed and evidence recorded in it was destroyed and hence he (Srinivas) returned the phone to the Police, the complaint added.

A complaint was lodged at KR Police Station (Law and Order) in this regard and investigation is on.
