Alleged dowry harassment: Woman immolates self at T. Narasipur

T. Narasipur: A 25-year-old woman, unable to bear the harassment by her in-laws for dowry, allegedly immolated herself be pouring kerosene and setting herself on fire. The incident took place at Hyakanur village in Kollegal taluk on June 17.

The deceased is Sudha, wife of Chandrashekar.

Daughter of Mahadeva of Kungalli village in Kollegal taluk, Sudha was given in marriage to Chandrashekar, son of Ramaiah of Hyakanur village.

Recently, Sudha had called her father Mahadeva and had informed him about the alleged harassment by her mother-in-law Puttamadamma, who was pressurising her to bring dowry.

Unfortunately, on June 17, Sudha had attempted suicide by pouring kerosene on her and setting herself ablaze. Though she was admitted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru, she succumbed to burn injuries on June 20.

Meanwhile, Sudha’s father Mahadeva, holding Sudha’s husband Chandrashekar, in-laws Ramaiah and Puttamadamma responsible for her death, has lodged a complaint at T. Narasipur Police Station.
