Alleged harassment by husband, family: Gujarat woman returns home; Husband denies allegations

Mysuru: A Gujarat woman, who fell in love with a man from Jayapura in the taluk, through Facebook and ran away from her father’s house to get married with him, has alleged harassment from her husband and his family members. She has now been sent back to her father’s place in Gujarat by Jayapura Police.

The woman has been identified as Nancy Joshi, daughter of Ashwin Bhai, a resident of Devabhoomi, Dwaraka district in Gujarat, while the man is identified as Faisal Ahmed of Jayapura.

Faisal and Nancy got themselves introduced about three years ago through Facebook and both are said to have fallen in love following which Nancy reportedly ran away from her house in Gujarat to Mysuru and got married to Faisal about six months ago.

After getting married, she began to stay in Faisal’s house, where he and his mother allegedly began to force her to follow Muslim traditions and customs, besides forcing her to study Arabic, Quran and consume meat apart from harassing her physically.

Unable to bear the harassment, Nancy called her father over phone and explained her ordeal. Nancy’s brother later came down to Mysuru and took her to Jayapura Police.

Meanwhile, Nancy is said to have told the Police that she was going back to her father’s place. The Police helped her to travel to her native.

Faisal has denied that he tortured Nancy and told the Police that she had agreed to convert to Islam after marriage. However, no complaint has been lodged in this regard.
