MLA demands high-level probe into Rifa-hul-Muslimeen Educational Trust
Mysuru: Accusing the city’s Rifa-hul-Muslimeen Educational Trust (RMET), functioning from Farooqia Educational Complex, Farooqia Road, Eidgah, of illegally getting loans from banks after pledging fake documents pertaining to Wakf properties and CA (Civic Amenities) sites of MUDA, NR Congress MLA Tanveer Sait has demanded a high-level probe against the Trustees, Bank officials and officials of various Government Departments, who were allegedly hand-in-glove with the Trust.
In a letter written to Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, Tanveer Sait, who is also the Member, Board of Wakf, said that RMET had availed a total of Rs. 8.95 crore loan in four instalments from Tilaknagar branch of Canara Bank in the period between Dec. 13, 2007 and Jan. 25, 2010 to meet administrative expenses.
Although the Trust paid six monthly instalments of loan in the period from Sept. 2007 to Feb. 2008, it soon became a debtor as it failed to repay remaining instalments, following which Canara Bank issued a press notification on June 29, 2015 saying that it had attached 82,750 sq.ft of landed property in Udayagiri owned by the Trust and 84,000 sq.ft of landed property near Eidgah in Tilaknagar, belonging to Wakf Board. But Wakf Board, taking note of the Bank’s attachment notification, wrote to the Bank informing that as per the Wakf Act of the State and Union Governments, nobody had the right to pledge or sell Wakf Board properties, following which the Bank dropped 84,000 sq.ft of land near Eidgah from attachment. But Canara Bank has issued a notification saying that it would auction the 82,750 sq.ft of land at Udayagiri and the private property of the Trust at Belavatta village, via online tomorrow (Nov. 30), Sait said.
Maintaining that Udayagiri land too belonged to Wakf Board, Sait urged the CM to direct Canara Bank to stall online auction of landed property and thus save property of Wakf Board
