Alleged sexual harassment: Case registered against GP Member, four others

Mysur: Alleging that a Gram Panchayat member had sexually harassed  her when she requested him to get her a sketch copy of her house and his followers assaulting two persons, a case has been registered against five persons including a woman at Jayapura Police Station.

While the person, who allegedly harassed the woman, is identified as Dhanagalli GP Member P. Lingaraju,   the others, who are accused of assaulting two persons during the village Panchayat meeting are Swamy, Suresh and Chikkamma of Dhanagalli village and Nanjunda of Udbur village.

Details: According to the complaint lodged by the woman, when she requested GP Member Lingaraju to get a sketch copy of her house from Gram Panchayat office, Lingaraju sought sexual favours and asked her to come to his home in the village.

She further stated that though she rejected his proposal, he began to pester her and she reported the matter to the village elders, who called both of them to a village Panchayat meeting to settle the issue.

During the meeting, Lingaraju’s elder brother Swamy, Suresh, Chikkamma and Nanjunda assaulted Manjunath and Basappa, following which the villagers stalled the hearing and rescued the injured.
