Alleged sexual harassment of research scholar: Professor couple of Mysore University issued notices

Mysore/Mysuru: University of Mysore (UoM) authorities have issued show-cause notices to UoM Professor couple Dr. G.T. Ramachandrappa and Dr. N.K. Lolakshi regarding the alleged sexual harassment incident on a research scholar.

The show-cause notices were issued by Registrar Prof. R. Shivappa yesterday to Dr. G.T. Ramachandrappa, Professor at the UoM’s Political Science Department and his wife Dr. N.K. Lolakshi, Professor at UoM’s Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies (KIKS), after the incident began doing rounds on social media and reports published in newspapers and aired on electronic media on Aug. 6.

Prof. Shivappa stated that the alleged incident had brought a bad name to the reputation of the University.

Prof. Shivappa, speaking to Star of Mysore, said that Dr. Lolakshi had given statements to the media without examining the facts, which is against the rules of the University and added that a show-cause notice was issued to her asking her to reply in writing to the notice in three days.

The registrar further said that another show-cause notice has been issued to Dr. Ramachandrappa asking him to reply in writing within three days as his wife had accused him of sexually harassing a research scholar and given statements to media, which had brought a bad name to the University.

Prof. Shivappa said that a letter has been written to Jayalakshmipuram Police Inspector to give a copy of the complaint, statements they had obtained, NCR and FIR.
