Alleging harassment by work supervisor: Woman ends life

Mysuru: Alleging harassment by her work supervisor, a 45-year old woman committed suicide by consuming poison at her residence in Hinkal on Hunsur Road  yesterday afternoon.

Nageshwari (45), a native of Ankanahalli in K.R. Nagar taluk and a resident of Hinkal, is the one who ended her life.

Nageshwari, who was married and had no issues (childless), was employed at Reliance Mart near Hinkal Flyover for the past couple of years.

A woman by name Dolly who joined the Mart as a supervisor over four months ago, started harassing her and relentlessly refusing to sanction leave.

Upset over harassment for no fault of hers, Nageshwari left the job a few days ago and joined another shopping mall near Hinkal. But Dolly continued the harassment by visiting her new place of work often and threatening to get her sacked from her new job too.

Nageshwari, who got depressed over continued harassment by Dolly, ended her life by consuming poison at her residence yesterday afternoon.

Her husband Ashok, a taxi-driver who was away on work, called his wife over cell phone later in the day yesterday, when his repeated calls went unanswered.

Suspecting something, Ashok rushed to his residence late last evening, when to his shock, he found his wife lying lifeless on a bed with a bottle of poison (insecticide) beside her. He immediately rushed Nageshwari to nearby Avant BKG Hospital, where she was declared dead upon arrival.

Nageshwari has left behind a death note, detailing the continued harassment by her former lady supervisor Dolly and the circumstances under which she was forced to end her life.

Based on a complaint by the deceased Nageshwari’s husband Ashok, the jurisdictional Vijayanagar Police have registered a case and are investigating.

The body was shifted to Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) mortuary today for post-mortem, after the Police completed the initial procedures.
