Mysore/Mysuru: University of Mysore (UoM) Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar said that the present generation should understand Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s life by reading his writings and speeches.
He was speaking at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s 131st birth anniversary celebration organised by the UoM’s Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre at the Centre premises in Manasagangothri here on Thursday.
Observing that independent India seems to be not moving on the path shown by Dr. Ambedkar, Prof. Hemantha Kumar said that our Constitution protects the right of every individual.
Pointing out that Mysore University has one of the highest number of SC/ST students, he said that he feels personally happy that the researchers from these communities are being provided scholarship by UoM.
Former State Backward Classes Commission Chairman Dr. C.S. Dwarakanath, who delivered a special lecture on the topic ‘Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in the present scenario’, opined that the only solution for the country’s political, social, economic and justice crisis lies in following the principles laid down by Dr. Ambedkar.
Contending that ‘Ambedkarism’ is nothing but following the principles of the Constitution, he argued that the Constitution, apart from being human centric, is also life centric as it seeks to uphold the rights of all living creatures and as well as nature. As such, Ambedkarism seems to be the only remedy for all problems that humans and humanity are currently facing, Dr. Dwarakanath contended.
Ph.D awardees and top rankers of Post-Graduate and Under-graduate courses of UoM were feted on the occasion.
UoM Registrar Prof. R. Shivappa presided. Registrar (Evaluation) Prof. A.P. Jnanaprakash, SC/ST Special Cell Deputy Registrar Prof. S. Mahadevamurthy, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Studies Centre Director Dr. S. Narendrakumar and others were present.
