MAHAN delegation calls on CM, seeks removal of unscientific rules

Mysuru: A delegation of MAHAN, the Mysore Association of Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Diagnostic Centres and Clinic, called on Chief Minister Siddharamaiah at his residence in city this morning and submitted a memorandum urging him to remove unscientific rules imposed on private medical practitioners and hospitals.

Association office-bearers said that the State Government has brought in amendments to Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act under which the Government will fix rates for various procedures in private hospitals and penalise those flouting it which amounts to imprisonment and The Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (Amendment) Bill, 2017, was also tabled in the Legislative Assembly.

The Bill mandates private hospitals to first hand over the dead body to a family and later collect the dues payable to it. It also prohibits private hospitals from demanding advance payments from patients or the family in case of emergency treatments.

Terming the Bill as unscientific, MAHAN has urged the CM to remove such unscientific rules as it would hamper in the functioning of private hospitals.

The CM, after receiving the memorandum, said that he has referred the issue to a Joint Review Committee and added that he would seek a report from the Committee before taking a call on it.

MAHAN President Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Secretary Dr. B.N. Rajeeva, Dr. Javeed Nayeem, IMA Mysuru Chapter President Dr. M.S. Vishweshwara and others were in the delegation.
