An appeal to save Hebbal Lake

February 20, 2026

630 concerned citizens launch signature campaign

Sir,

Hebbal Lake has long served as a green lung for thousands of residents, offering space for walking, exercise and relaxation. Maintained by Infosys Foundation since 2018, the Lake has been widely appreciated for its upkeep.

However, the Foundation is set to hand over maintenance to Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) from March 2026.

Even as the transition approaches, a major concern continues to plague the Lake — the inflow of sewage and industrial effluents through Storm Water Drains (SWDs).

One drain originates from the industrial area under the jurisdiction of Hootagalli City Municipal Council (CMC), while another flows through Hebbal and Lakshmikanthanagar, falling under the MCC’s limits.

More than 630 concerned citizens have physically signed petitions addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru, Hootagalli CMC and MCC, urging immediate steps to prevent sewage and waste from entering the SWDs. In a separate appeal to the same authorities, as well as to Infosys Foundation, residents have requested that the Foundation continue maintaining Hebbal Lake in the larger public and environmental interest.

– Signatories to the petition, Mysuru, 12.2.2026
