Sir,
I read the news item ‘Suspend drunk drive checking on weekends’ in SOM dated June 23. After reading this, I am really surprised and shocked that a professional body like the Hotel Owners Association, Mysuru, has made such an official request to the Police Department.
There are no logical grounds to seek such a concession at the cost of lives that may be lost due to drunken driving on busy roads of Mysuru and Highways.
The reason quoted is ‘long queues and delays’ affecting visiting tourists to Mysuru. The Association should have requested strict measures to curb drunken driving in the interest of visitors’ lives on weekends and holidays.
If you survey tourists and Mysureans, they do not support such requests that facilitate and encourage drunken driving, risking their lives and many innocent ones.
Last but not the least, “better save lives, not time” with such illogical requests, in the larger interest of society.
