Anganawadi workers seek regularisation of jobs

300 workers of district take out protest rally

Mysuru: As part of the one-day All India Anganawadi workers protest, about 300 Anganawadi workers of various centres in taluks of the district took out a protest rally from Ramaswamy Circle here to DC’s office this morning urging the government to fulfil their long-pending demands.

The rally was supported by district unit of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC).

The Anganawadi workers sought regularisation of their jobs with a minimum salary of Rs. 15,000. They urged the government to take them off the Matru Vandana Scheme according to which the Anganawadi workers were supposed to take care of post-natal mothers after delivery of first child. They contended that they were too busy to take care of the children and added that taking additional burden was not rational and feasible. They also alleged that the government was utilising them for other works but paying meagre honorarium. They submitted a memorandum to the Dy. Commissioner. The rally was led by AITUC Convenor Jagannath, Senior Anganawadi workers Brahmaramba, Mahadevamma, Jayamma and others.
