Mysore/Mysuru: An Anganwadi activist was allegedly murdered using an iron road at a bakery in Siddalingapura near Mysuru-Bengaluru Expressway on Wednesday evening and the accused, who had gone absconding was nabbed by the Police the next morning.

The deceased has been identified as Mamata (31), who was working at Kerethonnur Anganwadi Centre in Pandavapura taluk and the accused is 26-year-old Mohan, a native of Hassan and residing at Siddalingapura.

It is learnt that Mamata, who was married and has two children, was staying away from her husband and was in relationship with Mohan.

Mohan was running a bakery near the Expressway at Siddalingapura and Mamata had also invested money for the bakery and used to come to Siddalingapura now and then.

When Mamata came to the bakery on Wednesday, wordy duel ensued between her and Mohan and in a fit of rage, reportedly hit her on the head with an iron rod killing her. He then had  fled from the spot, according to the information provided by the villagers to the Police.

Metagalli Police Inspector Vinay and staff, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar, registered a case and shifted the body to MMC&RI mortuary.

DCP (Law and Order) M. Muthuraj, N.R. Sub-Division ACP C.K. Ashwathnarayan, dog squad and fingerprint experts visited the spot.

Metagalli Police, who had launched a hunt to nab accused Mohan, arrested him yesterday (Thursday) morning and produced him before the Magistrate last evening, who remanded him to judicial custody.
