Anti-Communal Wing to tackle ‘moral policing’ in Mangaluru: Minister

Mangaluru: Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara has said: “Anti-Communal Wing will be formed in Mangaluru Commissionerate limits to check moral policing.”

Addressing media persons after chairing a meeting of Police Officers, during a tour of coastal districts yesterday, Dr. Parameshwara said: “I have gone through the challenges and issues being faced in Mangaluru. I am not playing a new role, but there are new challenges with several changes in the society. Even Police Department is facing new challenges.”

“To prevent moral policing in Mangaluru, a new unit called Anti-Communal Wing involving capable Officers will be constituted in Mangaluru Commissionerate limits. We believe that good mannered people exist in Mangaluru, but the people are talking about the atmosphere of fear that prevails in this part. The Police have been instructed to restore communal harmony,” said Dr. Parameshwara.

“There have been unabated incidents of moral policing in coastal area. If not stopped, it will bring disrepute both for the Department and the State. Hence we will initiate action against moral policing. Moreover, by Aug. 15, coastal region should be free from drug menace, Home Minister Dr. Parameshwara instructed the Police Officers.
