‘Anti-Conversion Bill will not affect us’

Bishop Rev. Dr. K.A. William welcomes X-mas restrictions

Mysore/Mysuru: The Anti-Conversion Bill tabled by the Government will not affect us as we do not indulge in religious conversions, said Bishop Most Rev. Dr. K.A. William.

Addressing media persons at the Bishop’s House on Mother Teresa Road here this noon, the Bishop said that none have been converted forcibly but still fingers are being pointed on us. There is no need for this Bill in the State and those who indulge in religious conversions could be punished without the Bill. But there is a fear that the Bill would be misused and innocents will be targeted. One should not disturb one particular community in the name of the Bill, the Bishop added.

Welcoming the Government’s new guidelines, the Bishop said that the Government has restricted New Year celebration but has allowed Christmas celebrations with little restrictions. Christmas will be celebrated by following the Govt’s guidelines, he added.

Vicar General Fr. Rayappa, MSGR Fr. Leslie Moras, Chancellor Fr. Joseph Packia Raj, Administrator Fr. Domnic James, Mysore Diocesan Educational Society Secretary Fr. Vijaykumar were present.
