Mysuru/Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court has directed the State Government to submit all documents including proceedings of Search Committee, related to the appointment of Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Mysuru-based Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University (Music University), held on Sept. 29, 2020.
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL), seeking cancellation of appointment of Dr. Nagesh V. Bettakote as the VC of the Music Varsity, has been filed by Sri Prasanna Vidya Ganapathi Mandali Charitable Trust, Mysuru.
When this petition came up before the Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka yesterday, the Government was asked to produce all documents including the proceedings of the Search Committee before the Court and the Bench adjourned the case to Aug. 4.
It may be mentioned here that the Governor-Chancellor had appointed Dr. Nagesh Bettakote as the VC on Jan. 22, 2021.
However, the Trust contended that the appointment was illegal as Dr. Nagesh’s name was not included in the list of Search Committee.
