Artist Baadal Nanjundaswamy criticises Railways for pillar painting

Mysuru: City’s well-known young artist Baadal Nanjundaswamy, speaking to Star of Mysore this morning, appreciated the opinion of SOM “An Eyesore at Mysore Railway Station” about the painting of pillars at the City Railway Station and said that the Railways have simply ruined the beauty of the heritage building in the name of beautifying it.

“It is surprising that the Railways did not realise that no heritage building needs any further beautification. It only requires maintenance and restoration,” he said.

Further, the SOM report generated widespread criticism against Railways on the social media.  Here are a few samples of the comments published by readers.

Salah Ghori: “Using cheap paint and cheap Labour. Heritage buildings should be handled by the heritage trust. Please paint it back to its original colours the earliest.”

Nanda Kumar: “Nonsense by Railways. These people have messed up an existing marvel into a circus look.”

Narayan S. Balaji: “Enthusiasm of unlettered has killed History and Heritage in One Stroke.”

M.D. Krishna: “Senseless officials. Finding ways to make money.”

Khizer Ahmed Khan: “Not in my Mysuru. We should be the example for the rest for maintaining the heritage of a city.”
