ASIs, Head Constables too can book cases

Bengaluru – In order to streamline Police administration and to bring in reforms, Director General and Inspector General of Police R.K. Dutta is initiating a series of measures. One among them is extending the powers to book a case from Inspector and Sub-Inspector (SI) level officer to an ASI and Head Constable.

Till now, only Policemen above the rank of Sub-Inspector and Inspector could book a case. The new measure is expected to help citizens to approach even lower-rung Policemen to book a case in the event of any offence or criminal act.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru yesterday, R.K Dutta said that all the Station Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors have the responsibility of training the ASIs and Head Constables to ensure that the new system comes into place.

After booking the case, the ASIs and Head Constables can investigate them and submit the charge sheets to the respective courts. This will also ease the pressure on Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors, he said.
