Ask MCC, MUDA officials to resume public work: Ex-Mayor to DC

September 9, 2024

Mysuru: Amid widespread complaints that public services have been stalled at the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) following the revelation of a massive MUDA scam, former Mayor and BJP leader Sandesh Swamy has urged the Deputy Commissioner to instruct officials to resume public works while adhering to established guidelines.

In a press release, Sandesh Swamy noted that MUDA has formed around 40,000-50,000 sites, with private builders developing over a lakh more. He recalled that in the past, citizens could get their work done by frequenting the offices.

However, following the MUDA scam and the subsequent investigation, very few projects are currently underway at MUDA and MCC. He pointed out that the public is growing increasingly frustrated as their tasks remain unaddressed, with the scam causing a near-total shutdown of services.

Swamy alleged that this situation has become an opportunity for officials to delay or defer work, leading to heightened corruption.

He also highlighted the absence of a MUDA Chairman, stating that without leadership, meetings have not taken place for a long time. As a result, essential services such as building plan approvals, Khata transfers and Khata registrations have come to a standstill, severely impacting the public. However, he claimed to have observed that certain officials are processing select files under the pretext of ‘post-incident’ approvals.

Questioning the meaning behind the term ‘post-incident’, Swamy demanded clarification from the officials about their selective approvals.

He further warned that suspicions are growing among the public that another scam may be brewing under this guise, a concern he has brought to the attention of the Deputy Commissioner, the release said.
