Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep released the logo of SVEEP (Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation) at a programme held at his office here yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the District Administration will soon launch SVEEP as per the direction of the Election Commission, to increase participation of voters in the forthcoming Assembly polls and ensure inclusive, accessible and ethical elections.
Pointing out that the EC has directed to conduct SVEEP programme across the District to ensure free and fair elections, he said that ZP CEO P. Shivashankar and MCC Additional Commissioner Ravindra have appointed as Nodal Officers for rural and city limits respectively.
The authorities have formed teams at taluk levels and the team members headed by respective Executive Officers will conduct educative programmes, Randeep said and added that detailed action plan has been submitted to the EC in this regard.
ZP CEO P. Shivashankar said that voter turnout was 72 percent in the previous Assembly polls and this time the administration aims to reach 80 percent.
Pointing out that a majority of migrant tribal population skip voting due to many reasons, he said that the District Administration has planned to provide them jobs under MGNREGA and make them stay put in their respective hamlets. “We will emphasise on the importance of voting and also educate the voters on NOTA (None Of The Above) option,” he added.
