Belagavi: The ongoing winter session of the State Legislature at Belagavi, saw the passing of as many as eight Bills on a single day on Monday.
The Bills tabled and passed on included amendments to the GST (Goods and Services Tax) Bill, allowing a one-time settlement (OTS) of 80,000 tax disputes amounting to Rs.15,000 crore and amendments to Karnataka protection of Investors Bill, the Karnataka Protection of Interest of Deposits in Financial establishments Act, 2024 that seeks to safeguard farmers and small depositors from fraudulent money lenders and financial schemes and Karnataka Groundwater (Regulation and Control of Development and Management) (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which makes the Borewell drillers and the farmers responsible for any accident.
Other key bills passed were: Karnataka State Universities (Amendment) Bill-2024 that proposes renaming Raichur University as Chanakya University (Amendment) Bill-2024.
Karnataka Labour Welfare Fund (Amendment) Bill-2024 that proposes increase of employee, employer and Govt. contributions to the Labour Welfare Fund.
Basavana Bagewadi Development Authority Bill-2024 that seeks to establish an independent authority for developing Basavana Bagewadi taluk in Vijayapura.
Karnataka Tourism Ropeways Bill – 2024 that grants Government the authority to build ropeways at tourism sites and BBMP (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024 that aims to streamline property tax collection while promoting transparency in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
