Mysur: The 6th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a murder accused to seven years rigorous imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs. 1 lakh after he was found guilty of issuing threats, attempting to assault Police personnel on duty with a machete and damaging a Police vehicle.
The accused, who was sentenced to jail is Eeraiah, a resident of Naviluru in Nanjangud Rural Police limits.
Details: Eeraiah, who had murdered his wife Mahadevamma with a machete, had also assaulted the villagers, who had rushed to the aid of his wife.
When the Police rushed to the spot, accused Eeraiah threatened them with life and swung the machete on them which missed the Cops but damaged the Police vehicle.
Later, when Eeraiah was creating ruckus near BasaveshwaraGudi in the village, Police personnel rushed to the spot to apprehend him. But he abused the Police personnel and attempted to assault them. Soon, additional Police personnel were summoned to the spot and Eeraiah was arrested.
Nanjangud Rural Inspector Shivananjashetty, who conducted investigation, submitted a charge sheet to the Court.
Judge K.N. Roopa, who took up the case, heard the arguments from both sides, found the accused guilty and sentenced him to seven years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 1 lakh. Failing to pay the fine, the Judge has ordered Eeraiah to undergo an additional one year simple imprisonment.
