Mysuru: An attempt to burgle the house of the Assistant Professor at All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) was foiled as the Professor’s ailing mother screamed for help forcing the burglar to flee from the house.
The attempted burglary took place at the house of Dr. Vasanthalakshmi at Subramanyanagar in Hebbal 1st Stage in city.
On Mar. 20, at about 3.30 pm, when Dr. Vasanthalakshmi had gone to the Institute and her husband Sundaraj was in his computer centre at K.G. Koppal, the burglar, who came in the guise of delivering a courier, called the name of Sundaraj many times. As no one responded, the burglar, using a metal object, forcible opened the front door and entered inside.
Meanwhile, Dr. Vasanthalakshmi’s mother, who was sleeping in her room, heard the sound of the door being forcibly opened and someone entering the house, screamed “Police, Police,” resulting in the burglar fleeing from the house. Her neighbours, on hearing her screams, rushed to the house.
Sundaraj said that similar incidents have taken place in the last two months in the locality.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Crime and Traffic, S. Jahnavi, Vijayanagar Sub-Division Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Raviprasad and staff from Hebbal Police Station, who reached the house, conducted mahazar, collected footages of CCTV cameras installed in the house and registered a case in this regard.
