Attempt to murder Mysuru youth in Kodagu: One arrested

Somwarpet: A youth from Mysuru, who had been to Makkalagudi Betta near Somwarpet in Kodagu, was brutally assaulted by a person last evening.

The victim, who has suffered serious injuries, was provided first-aid at Kodagu District Hospital in Madikeri and was later shifted to a private hospital in Mysuru.

The victim is 24-year-old Rakesh, son of Sridhar, working as a Manager at SBI Life and residing in a room at T.K. Layout in Mysuru. Meanwhile, Somwarpet Police have arrested one Kumaraswamy of Kirangadur in the taluk on charges of brutally assaulting Rakesh and are interrogating him.

It is learnt that the accused, after committing the crime, was moving around the hill and the villagers, who noticed blood stains on his clothes, informed the Police, who arrested him.

The Police are also checking the footages of CCTV cameras installed on the road leading to the hill. Yesterday afternoon, Rakesh arrived at Makkalagudi Betta on his bike (KA-01 EV-8766) when the accused launched the murderous assault. Babu, the local waterman, who saw a person assaulting Rakesh, began to scream which attracted public and the assaulter fled.

Soon, Babu along with autorickshaw driver Vijay shifted the victim till the main road from where the victim was shifted to the District Hospital in an ambulance.After first-aid, the victim was later shifted to a private hospital in Mysuru for further treatment.

Rakesh, who is undergoing treatment in the ICU at the private hospital here, is said to be unconscious and his family members said that the doctors would be performing surgery on him this afternoon.

Somwarpet Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
