Mysuru: An incident of a con woman, diverting the attention of an elderly lady and yanking off the gold chain the elderly woman was wearing and fleeing from the spot has been reported on Hunsur Road near Hootagalli yesterday.

The elderly woman, who lost her gold chain weighing about 33 grams, has been identified as 60-year-old Chikkabhadramma, a resident of Hootagalli near Yashasvini Kalyana Mantap.

Chikkabhadramma, who alighted from a bus at Hinkal, was walking towards her house at about 1 pm yesterday, when a woman walking on the same path, dropped her purse and was walking away.

Chikkabhadramma, who saw the woman dropping her purse, called her and proceeded to hand over the purse during which the woman is said to have smeared some powdery substance on Chikkabharamma’s hand following which the elderly woman’s eyes became blur for sometime.

After her eyesight became normal, Chikkabhadramma realised that her gold chain was missing and lodged a complaint with Vijayanagar Police.

Vijayanagar Inspector Vijay and staff, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar, registered a case and are investigating.
