Rohan Bopanna of India scripted history by becoming the oldest World No. 1 player in men’s doubles tennis after his quarterfinal win in the ongoing Australian Open, this morning.
The 43-year-old player from Kodagu, Bopanna is assured of the numero uno spot at the end of the Australian Open as the Indian star and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden reached the semi-finals of men’s doubles in Melbourne defeating the sixth seeded Argentinean pair Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni 6-4, 7-6 (5).
Matthew Ebden, who has been one of Rohan Bopanna’s most successful partners, is assured of reaching the No. 2 spot in men’s doubles rankings.
Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden will face the unseeded pair Z.Z. Zhang (China) and T. Machac (Czech Republic) in the semi-final scheduled tomorrow.
