Auto driver who had fled with passenger’s mobile phone arrested

Mysuru: Devaraja Police on July 18 arrested an auto driver who had fled with the mobile phone of a passenger on June 4 night and have recovered the mobile phones besides seizing the auto used for the crime.

The accused has been identified as 40-year-old Manjunath, a resident of Mahadeshwara Layout in Kumbarakoppal in city.

During interrogation, the accused is said to have confessed of snatching the mobile phone and based on the information provided by the accused, the Police have recovered one Samsung J7 Prime mobile phone from him.

It may be recalled that on June 4, the complainant, who arrived from Bengaluru to city in the night, came to Dasappa Circle and asked Manjunath to take him to Metagalli to which Manjunath had demanded Rs. 300 as the fare.

The complainant then decided to walk home and as he walked a few steps, Manjunath came in his auto and told him that he would drop him to his destination and asked him to sit inside the auto.

Manjunath, after taking the complainant to a distance asked him to pay Rs. 300 and when the complainant refused, Manjunath snatched the mobile phone of the complainant and fled from the spot. A case was registered at Devaraja Police Station.

Based on the complaint, Devaraja Police, arrested Manjunath near Mahadeshwara Tent on July 18. DCP Dr. Vikram V. Amathe and Devaraja Sub-Division ACP Gajendraprasad, supervised Devaraja Inspector C. Thimmaraju and staff in the nabbing and recovery operation.
