Mysuru: avantbkg Hospital, Mysuru, has successfully performed a highly complex and rare Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedure in city.
This first Valve-in-Valve-in-Valve TAVI procedure was performed by Dr. J. Rajagopal, Chief Interventional Cardiologist, on a 62-year-old patient, who required a third valve replacement.
The patient, who had previously undergone a Bentall procedure with a Trifecta 25 valve that developed restenosis, had a second valve replacement via TAVI in 2019 with a Myval 24.5mm valve.
In this case, Dr. Rajagopal implanted a Medtronic Evolut FX 26mm valve, offering the patient a new lease on life through this innovative, non-surgical technique.
“This case represents a significant advancement in cardiac care. Successfully performing a Valve-in-Valve-in-Valve TAVI highlights our ability to manage the most complex cardiac conditions with precision and expertise. The minimally invasive approach ensures faster recovery and improved outcomes for patients who might not tolerate traditional open-heart surgery,” Dr. Rajagopal said.
Dr. T.N. Balakrishna Gowda, Managing Director of avantbkg Hospital, appreciating the doctors’ team said, “We are thrilled to see such a rare and complex procedure successfully performed at avantbkg Hospitals. This accomplishment not only showcases the skill and expertise of our team, led by Dr. J. Rajagopal, but also reinforces our dedication to saving lives with the latest medical innovations. It is a moment of immense pride for the entire hospital team.”
The 62-year-old patient’s successful recovery following the procedure underscores the critical role that advanced cardiac interventions play in enhancing patient outcomes. The case sets a new benchmark in interventional cardiology for Mysuru region, providing hope for patients with similar complex cardiac conditions.
