Mysuru: World Club Foot Day was celebrated in the premises of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple here this morning by Mysore Orthopaedic Association along with Rotary Mysore, Club Foot Society of India, Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) and JSS Medical College.
The Day is celebrated to raise public awareness on Congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV), often known as ‘Club Foot,’ a common but little studied developmental disorder of the lower limb.
Dr. K.R. Dakshayani, Dean and Director of MMC&RI, presided over the event commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr. Ignacio Ponseti (3 June 1914 – 18 October 2009), who developed the Ponseti Method, which is now the Orthopaedic standard treatment for children born with club foot. His works in treatment of club foot has been a guiding light to doctors and has resulted in changing the lives of millions of children worldwide. It is a treatable condition but often neglected due to lack of awareness.
Office-bearers of Mysore Orthopaedic Association, Orthopaedic doctors of MMC&RI, jSS medical College, Rotarians and hundreds of students were present along with successfully treated children and their parents.
