‘Ayurveda, food practices go together’

Mysuru:  Not only Ayurveda and food practices go together, even music forms a part of Ayurvedic treatment, said Dr. Srivatsav, Professor, Government Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital.

He was delivering a talk on Health at the recently held monthly lecture series,  organised by Elders Citizens Council at Saraswathi Samudaya Bhavana, Jayalakshmipuram and  explained that the main cause for various diseases today is because of lifestyle changes, unlike the safe practices followed by our ancestors.

He explained about the eight divisions of  chikitsas (treatment) taken up for the Ayurvedic treatment by the Hospital which included Karya Chikitsava, Bala Chikitsava, Shalya Tantra (surgery) Chikitsava, Utsha, Jara Chikitsava for the aged, Vaju Karana (delay in conceiving), Griha Chikitsava etc.

He also talked about the Sutras of dieting and consumption of food. Apart from the food habits, Dr. Srivatsav also advised regarding care to be taken which  include a proper sleeping bed with the pillow not above the shoulder level to give sound sleep, physical exercises like yoga and walking as permitted by the body, breathing practices including Pranayama and controlling the Indriyas.

The Desha Jnana of food practices as per the local availabilities, the dress code of wearing clothes as per the climatic weather, Kala Jnana, a life style as per the seasons and Athma Jnana a way of developing our character as per the requirement of the society, is a way to a good and healthy life, he said.

Chairman of the Building Trust S.V. Gowdappa thanked the chief guest for explaining about various food habits for a healthy life and also for creating an awareness about various facilities available at the Government Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital.
