B.V. Karanth College Rangothsava 2017: Theatre helps students in personality development: Prof. Krishnegowda

Mysuru: “Theatre helps students to develop personality, skill and get good hold over language,” said humourist Prof. M. Krishnegowda here yesterday.

He was speaking after inaugurating the B.V. Karanth College Rangothsava organised by Rangayana at Bhoomigeeta.

“Gubbi Veeranna Theatre Company has given talented actors to the society. Actors such as Dr. Rajkumar, Balakrishna and others have contributed for the strengthening of Kannada language through their acting. They are the ones, who reached great heights with the help of their talents and not education,” he added. Calling on students to use their talents to build their career, Prof. Krishnegowda said that students getting attracted to theatre in the modern era was a welcome gesture.

Students of Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University, Mysuru, staging the play ‘Sankranti,’ directed by Yatish, on the occasion.

“Art and culture not only entertains the student but also builds self-confidence,” he added.

Rangayana Director Bhagirathi Bai Kadam, Kannada & Culture Joint Director V.S. Mallikarjuna Swamy, Karnataka Nataka Academy Member Shantha Kulkarni and Rangothsava Convenor Santhosh Kumar Kusanoor were present.

Later, the students of Music University staged the play ‘Sankranti’ directed by Yatish.

Today, the students of Maharani’s College for Women will stage the play ‘Ekachakranagari’ directed by Dr. D. Sheelakumari at 6.30 pm.
