Badminton Association of India (BAI) in its annual general meeting held yesterday unanimously resolved to expel Dr. Vijay Sinha from BAI and all its affiliated units, member organisations, affiliate, etc. Dr. Sinha has been further restrained from contesting any election or hold any post or office related to badminton in the country.
Dr. Sinha have been probed by an independent judicial committee and was found guilty of serious charges of sexual harassment, misappropriation, fraud, nepotism, embezzlement and fraud and an FIR has been lodged with Lucknow Police based on the advice of the independent body’s findings. Dr. Sinha is currently said to be absconding.
Upon the vacancy being created, the AGM by unanimous vote resolved to fill in the vacancy of the post of honorary general secretary for the remaining term by electing Anup Narang, the officiating honorary secretary as the full fledged honorary general secretary of the association.
The house also unanimously passed all the resolutions that were proposed by the executive committee of the association in its meeting held at Bengaluru earlier this year. Decisions with regards to further improved performance of the badminton players in the upcoming badminton event including the Tokyo Olympics 2020 were also taken.
Events like Badminton Star Night, Shuttle Time India, Coach The Coaches programme so as to elaborate and expand them to all parts of the country were also taken. Further the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI’s) request to be affiliated with the BAI as its associate affiliate was also accepted and approved by the house.
In addition many other decisions like conducting the domestic badminton league for Indian shuttlers only and Asian Badminton League in association Badminton Asia Confederation and Badminton World Federation were also taken.
