Ban on sale of limestone paste in packets and tubes

Wrapping food in plastic sheets, newspapers also banned

Mysuru: The Karnataka State Food Safety Commissioner has banned the sale of limestone paste which is used in the preparation of paan beeda in packets and tubes and has also banned wrapping of food items in plastic sheets and newspapers with immediate effect in Mysuru  city and district.

Food Safety and Standards Act Officers Dr. Chidambara and Dr. Kusuma informed that the ban orders has come into immediate effect and added that the limestone paste should be sold only in containers.

The officers have also stated that action as per the Food Safety and Standards Act would be initiated against those who are found selling limestone paste in packets and tubes.

Wrapping food items in plastic sheets and newspapers also banned: The Officers have also informed that wrapping of food items in plastic sheets and newspapers has also been banned as the printing ink used in newspapers contain harmful chemicals which is hazardous to health.

They said that stringent action would be taken against those who are found wrapping food items in plastic sheets and newspapers as per Food Safety and Standards Act.
