Ban use of plastic at Expo: MCC officials direct KEA Chief to implement ban

MCC Environmental Engineer Poornima addressing the shopkeepers at the Dasara Exhibition Grounds regarding the ban on plastic, here yesterday, as Karnataka Exhibition Authority CEO Shashikumar and others look on.

Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) officials are fully geared up to make Mysuru, a plastic-free city. However, the Dasara Exhibition is littered with plastic and hence, the officials have directed the Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA) CEO to implement the ban in the expo premises too.

At a meeting organised in the Exhibition premises here yesterday to create awareness about the ban of plastic, MCC Environmental Engineer Poornima asked the shopkeepers and others to stop using plastic bags and instead use cloth bags and paper cups. She warned that if plastic bags are used then action would be taken against them.

KEA CEO Shashikumar speaking said that already the shopkeepers and others had been informed about the ban on using plastics. Even then it has come to the notice that plastic is being used. He also warned that if plastic bags and cups are used instead of cloth bag and paper cups, action would be taken against them.

More than 100 shopkeepers including KEA Assistant Executive Engineer Sindhu were present during the meeting.
