Bank Puttaswamy’s group gains upper hand in City Co-operative Bank polls

Mysore/Mysuru: The group, led by the Bank’s Immediate Past President M. Puttaswamy (Bank Puttaswamy), gained upper hand in the election to the City Co-operative Bank’s Board of Directors, in the polls held on Sunday. The City Co-operative Bank is located on Sri Harsha Road in the heart of the city.

The polling that took place at Dasara Exhibition Grounds, saw only 10,786 out of the 21,275 voters cast their ballots. The Bank, established in 1910, has over 22,000 members, with 21,275 of them eligible to vote. 

A total of 37 candidates had contested for 13 post of Directors for the five year term 2020-25. The group led by Puttaswamy had contested for 10 posts and succeeded in winning six posts. 

The opponent group, led by former Corporator N. Dhruvaraj, which had contested seven posts, succeeded in winning three of them. The winners, in the order of the number of votes secured  are as follows:

General category: S.B. Shiva (5,655 votes), N. Dhruvaraj (5,522), M.N. Swarup (4,675), V. Madhu (4,551), M. Puttaswamy (4,075), Prasanna N. Lakshman (3,953) and Dinesh M. Venkatalingaiah (3,813); SC seat: Jayakumar (3,156); ST seat:  S. Swamy (2,265), Backward Class-A category: M.K. Ashok (2,832) and J. Prakash (Kurubarahalli Prakash) (2,584), Women’s seats: Hema (4,632) and former Mayor Pushpalatha T.B. Chikkanna (3,212).

Among the winners, M. Puttaswamy, Kurubarahalli Prakash, Prasanna N. Lakshman, Dinesh M. Venkatalingaiah, Jayakumar and Pushpalatha T.B. Chikkanna belonged to the Puttaswamy group, while Druvaraj, Madhu and Swarup belonged to the group led by former Corporator N. Dhruvaraj.

The polling to elect 13 members to the Board of Directors for a five-year term (2020-25) took place from 9 am to 4 pm on Sunday and the counting of votes was taken up an hour later. The results were declared late in the evening. 

Assistant Registrar of Co-operative Societies K.S. Harish Kumar was the Returning Officer.
