Bank Strike

• Cash deposits, cheque clearances hit
• Branches to reopen only on Tuesday

Mysuru: Banking services across the city were severely affected this morning as bank employees went on a one-day nationwide strike demanding fulfilment of their various demands. The strike was called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (AIBEA-AIBOC-NCBE-AIBOA-BEFI-INBEF-INBOC).

The key demands include implementation of a five-day work-week with all Saturdays off, resolution of disputes related to the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and settlement of long-pending issues concerning employee pension and wages, among others.

With all public sector bank branches across the city remaining closed to the public due to the strike, banking transactions such as cash deposits, withdrawals and cheque clearances were severely affected.

With today’s strike, banks will remain closed for four consecutive days, with tomorrow being the second Saturday, followed by Sunday, a general public holiday and Monday, a holiday for Ganesha Chaturthi.

Banks will reopen only on Tuesday and customers will have to wait until then for physical banking transactions.

Take out protest march

As part of the strike, bank employees staged demonstrations at their respective branches before taking out a march from the SBI Administrative Office in T.K. Layout.

Hundreds of public sector bank employees participated in the protest march, which passed through Maruthi Temple Junction, Kamakshi Hospital, Bake Point Circle and Saraswathipuram Police Station before culminating at the starting point.
