Banned currency notes found in Nanjangud Temple Hundi

Nanjangud: Demonetised currency notes of Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 500, totalling Rs. 35,500 were found in Nanjangud’s famed Srikanteshwara Temple Hundi, the counting of which was taken up on Tuesday. The total Hundi collection at the temple recorded cash of Rs. 89,97,453; 60 grams of gold; 2.75 kg silver articles and 15 foreign currency notes, including dollars.

Counting was taken up by over 120 staff of the temple, Canara Bank and Self-Help Groups, under the supervision of Temple Executive Officer H.M. Kumaraswamy. Muzrai Tahsildar Yathiraj Sampath Kumaran, Temple Management Committee President Puttaningashetty, AEO Gangaiah, Temple Committee members R. Indan Babu, N.T. Girish, Manjula Madhu, Sridhar, Shashirekha and others were present.
