Who benefits from Music University in Mysuru…!

Bengaluru: Senior JD(S) leader and former Minister Basavaraj Horatti wondered for whose benefit the Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University had been set up in Mysuru.

He was participating in a discussion on the Karnataka Universities (Amendment) Bill 2017 in the Council here yesterday and questioned how much the ordinary people have benefited by this University. Nobody knows what is happening in this University, he said expressing his displeasure.

How many students are studying in this University, have the people of the State been educated about the music and arts courses being offered here, Horatti asked.

Then taking up the issue on the appointment of Vice-Chancellors, he advised that while VCs are being appointed, lot of bargaining takes place and such practise should be stopped in the interest of education. “Bring an amendment in this regard once and for all, instead of amending it often,” he said.

Replying to the discussion, Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy said that uniformity is being brought about in the appointment of VCs throughout the country. In the light of this, it has become inevitable to increase the age limit of the VC of Music University. After the discussion, the Bill was passed.
